Lovable Baddies – Anton Chigurh

Our favorite Lovable Baddies was our Flavor of the Month for February but considering we still have it going strong in March, I figured I’d bring some love to the baddie that jumped to the front of my mind for last month. I know I started off with Beetlejuice but I didn’t want to come too hard too fast. Anton Chigurh puts a check mark into every box of my Lovable Baddie criteria. Continue reading

National Cereal Day!

March 7th is National Cereal Day! This is a very special day. According to tradition you….well just eat cereal. Its not very scientific, it’s probably the most simplistic holiday there is. I had to italicize holiday because, I feel pretty weird calling today a holiday. You basically just eat cereal. Anytime of the day. That’s it. So we’ll stick to day instead of holiday to make it easier for everyone. Anyways to celebrate this day, I kicked things off right with probably my favorite cereal of all time….

Enjoy Oscar’s Best Animated Short

I very rarely get a chance to see the short films nominated for Oscars and I’ve always been a bit bummed out by that. I think that short films offer a great diversion from the standard feature films we get to see on a continuous basis. They are almost always inventive and refreshing and sometimes they are so rich, they surpass their bigger brothers. I found the winner of this year’s Best Animated Short on Youtube and I’ve provided the video below. The short is simply enchanting. In the fifteen minutes of run time, I experienced so much and when it ended, I watched it again. It’s a very well made film and it conveys a great deal of emotion and information with every scene. Check the video out after the break and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Best Picture Profile (Part II): The Descendants, The Help, and Moneyball

Charles Bukowski once wrote, “People see so many movies that when they finally see one not so bad as the others, they think it’s great. An Academy Award means that you don’t stink quite as much as your cousin.”

This is a fantastic quote for two reasons: 1) It’s written by Bukowski. 2) It proves my point that whether we love or hate the Oscars, the American awards ceremony will always be relevant in our lives — even Bukowski can’t help discussing it. So let’s continue with the next 3 films nominated for Best Picture that don’t “stink” quite as much as their cousins.
